He has played two NCAA sports (football and soccer), as well as being recognized as a top youth soccer coach. He started coaching when he was in high school and immediately received a lot of attention with his ability to relate to young players. He was given a blog by Dallas Morning News to write about his coaching and to give parenting and coaching advise to parents. He recently has been offered a Coaching Internship or known as “Estagio” with FC Dallas. He works mainly with the FC Dallas MLS Juniors ( U-18, U-16) teams. He learns and works directly under nationally recognized coaches such as; Oscar Pareja, Chris Hayden, Marco Feruzzi, Drew Keeshan, and Fransisco Molina. When asked about what he wants to do with his life he said , “ I want to be known as the guy who gave opportunities to other people, I want to be the head coach of the national team and win a world cup…don’t worry I will get there one day.” At only 21 years of age his outstanding athletic, coaching, and community reputation show there is a lot more to come out of this soccer standout. “The greatest thing a leader can do is invest in others. It is my intention to mentor and raise up as many future leaders as possible. April 10, 2010 SMU students touched over 200 refugee and inner city children’s lives. This is only the beginning… As a Senior, my greatest influence on this campus has come by listening to others and putting them first, which is exactly what this community needs; someone who will give them the time of day.”

Living in a third world country opened his eyes to understanding we can make a difference in the world wherever we please. Upon returning to SMU in August of 2009, he noticed you cannot stop caring for others when you know you can help your local communities next door. Empowering young boys and girls to lead a healthy lifestyle is a concern we must address today. Yes, while we have incredible cuisine across the country, cheapmeals leaves many with unhealthy alternatives to survival. We may be college students, but we are–in this very moment–the leaders of the future. Since the “wild west” of our generation is found in internet cafes, living rooms and cellular phones across the world, we are witnessing active globalization toppling borders–new boundaries are set and broken every day. DreamBig is taking the next step. Social entreprenuers are bred before they’ve seen the world; our youthful passions can now guide us to implement a difference in real time. So how do you want to make your impact?
Austin is a standing Junior at SMU graduating with a dual degree in Mathematics and Mechanical Engineering.
